Lusipurr.com is pleased to present The Great Pokemon Hunt 2011!

Smugleaf provides 100% of your recommended daily allowance of BETTER THAN YOU.

SmugLeaf

From 6 March, any person with PKMN Black or White can choose to participate in The Great PKMN Hunt 2011. The person with the most valid trades completed before our Summer of Suikoden playthrough (begins 5 June) will win a brand new, full price (up to $60 US) game of their choice from Amazon or Steam! This contest is open to Lusipurr.com staff members and guests, but all trades must be set up using the comment system.

NOTE: You must have legitimately caught the PKMN you are trading in an English copy of the game. Trading PKMN acquired from other players, other versions, or which you have cheated to obtain, will result in disqualification.

How To Play:
1 – Each week, Lusipurr will ask for a random type of PKMN. If you have a PKMN of that type from the PKMN specific to Black or White, and can trade with him to fulfill his request, post a comment on this post saying what PKMN you would like to trade him. You may only post one trade offer at a time, and only one trade offer per day; you may only trade once per day. Multiple submissions above this one-per-day rule will be deleted. For the purposes of this contest, the new day begins at 00:00 US Eastern Time.

2Lusipurr will attempt to trade with people for PKMN on a first-comment, first-traded basis. If that attempt fails, he will move on to the next person offering that PKMN, and so on, until the trade for that PKMN is successful. Therefore, you may use your trade offer to propose a trade which someone else is already offering, but you will only be allowed to make that trade if the previous offers fail, because…

3 – When a trade is successful, the person who made the trade will receive one point. After week three, Legendaries traded will be worth three points. Thereafter, no one can trade that PKMN to Lusipurr for the rest of that trading week. Running totals are posted at the bottom of this thread.

All participants will have their names and scores read on the Megaphones Ahoy! Podcast, and there will be a number of secondary prizes awarded, including a guest spot on the podcast, as well! Even the smallest contribution is worthwhile. Get out there and catch some PKMN!

Remember, you will need to add Lusipurr to your Pal Pad, and he will need to add you to his own, so be sure to provide your information the first time you comment. Lusipurr’s PKMN name is Lusi and his friend code is 3095 6500 7534.

  1. Good luck everyone! I probably don’t have much of a chance to defend my title thanks to grad school, but we’ll see!

  2. Note: The Speed Gamers are doing a catch ’em all marathon from friday to saturday idk if they have the new pokemon in this catch ’em all but might be cool to check out

  3. Count me in! I’m planning to pick up Black or White later on today!

  4. This first week will be an open week, where everyone has a chance to see the rules and start thinking ahead. Next week, at midnight on Sunday, the first type will be announced here. Then, individual offers can be made.

The rules will be very strictly adhered to. If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask them here in the thread.

At the moment, I am considering having you trade to my copy of SoulSilver so that we can get the contest started sooner, because, in White, it may take a while until I can get to a point where I 1) can trade at all, and 2) have enough funding for the loads of pokeballs I’ll need for trading fodder.

If nothing else, you can feel free to discuss the games here, too, since this is effectively a playthrough thread as well!

  5. So. Addicted. I can’t honestly say if you’re able to trade/have a ton of Pokéballs soon into the game or not. I can trade and have 50 Pokéballs at my disposal, but I played near 10 hours of the game yesterday. Somehow.

    Smugleaf!

  6. I genuinely don’t know the answer to this one: will the new black and white pokemon trade backwards to the older games?

So far I’m liking the improvements graphically that they’ve made, but it’s definitely not earth shattering. I am certainly enjoying it though.

  7. @Dan: Yes, they will. No.

I like to think that each PKMN game just takes what the previous games had, and polishes it even further. The idea is eventually reach some sort of Pokenirvana, where the game is a perfect collect-em-all experience.

That said, I feel that this particular version seems to have ‘polished’ more than usual iterations. It feels absolutely amazing. Everything seems so sharp!

  8. Heads-up!

You’ll have to trade from your copy of B/W to my copy of B/W. As with previous games, you can’t trade to other versions until after you complete the main story and obtain the National Pokedex.

So it looks like we’ll have a short delay until I can receive trades, which should be soon!

  9. Yay, going to get Pokemon black today after school, should be up and playing it all night after Levequests with Lusipurr.

  10. Hrm, despite all the great tweaks for the better (the BEST being the ability to trade FROM ANYWHERE – not just the Pokémon Centre – and being able to trade from the PC boxes), there are a few confusing backsteps.

    1. The ability to always be wearing the running shoes. It’s a small thing, yes, but in SoulSilver, you could tap the shoes on and off so that you didn’t have to hold down B to run. It was nice.

    2. The ability to use the left shoulder button as an alternate for the “A” button. I could eat with one hand and play Pokémon with the other. It was nice.

Those MINOR things aside, this truly is shaping up to be my favourite entry since Gold/Silver. I’m only 4 badges in though, so we’ll see.

  11. I truly can’t tell why they did it. There also doesn’t seem to be a visual icon for when a Pokémon in the boxes is holding an item. That used to be the case, didn’t it? It was nice.

  12. @Ethos: Nope, not in Diamond/Pearl or SoulSilver/HeartGold, at least. The only way to tell whether an PKMN in a box was holding an item (or, as I recall, in ANY place) was to look at its status screen or choose to give it an item or take an item from the relevant menu.

  13. @Ethos: Added you! My friend code (and yours) are in the post!

If you are participating, comment with your rriend code or there will be no trading!

First type to be announced on Sunday!

  14. I hope other people are going to participate! So far, the only entrant is Ethos! Where are your PKMN friend codes, ladies and gents?

  15. I have the game and I’m almost at the second gym(would have been further but I had to restart until I had all the starter pokemon). The darker grass containing two wild pokemon is a great new addition to the game.

I’m going to participate, but I’m still in GA and the DS can’t connect to the hotel wifi, so I’m going to have to wait until I get back home to get my Friend Code…

  16. My friend code is 3009 7397 5062. And his name is Toby.

And if you guys haven’t done so already, don’t forget to download the Liberty Pass so you can get Victini.

  17. @Dan: Are you certain his name is not actually KUNTA KINTE?

Thanks for reminding everyone about the Liberty Pass. I completely forgot to mention it!

  18. Used my girlfriend’s internet to get my friend code; here it is: “3396 3026 1766”

  19. I’d like to understand and participate, but I honestly can’t make any sense of the rules. Oh well.

    My friend code is: 5243 1279 2374

  20. Also, you don’t actually need the person’s trainer name, you can use whatever name you want for them. But if you want to know, I just called myself Chris.

  21. @Chris: What would you like clarified? I’ve tried to be pretty explicit about the rules above.

Also, *I* need to know trainer names so that if I look through traded PKMN to verify who has traded what, I can match up the ‘trainer name’ on the PKMN’s status sheet to the person here on the site.

  22. @Ethos Yeah, Victini has been a beast for me so far. Especially once I slapped the Lucky Egg on to boost leveling even faster. :)

  23. I did too, DanChiSao. But then I got a Dragon-type and the Lucky Egg is NECESSARY for that dude.

And Lusipurr, what about Pokémon that I’ve caught and traded to a friend and traded back so that it might evolve? Still legal?

  24. @G_Lanser: It’s VICTINI.

At the game title screen where you choose to continue, instead of doing that scroll down and choose PKMN Mystery Gift via Nintendo WFC. You’ll get the card and, when you log into the game and go to a PKMN Center, there will be a guy there who gives you the item you need to get Victini.

  25. Here’s my FC: 3353 3506 5643. Name: G-lansr (not enough space for the “e”).

  26. @Lusipurr: Tks! Just got the Pass. I’ll probly get to the city where I can use it later today or tomorrow.

  27. @G-lanser: The instructions that tell you how to use it come with the game.

Also everyone who has commented their friend code so far has been added! Make sure you add me (and everyone else) and you’ll see each other when you log into the Nintendo WFC Club room thingy.

    First type request coming soon . . . . . .

  28. WEEK 1
    REQUESTED TYPE: POISON

You may now offer trades from the 150 Black/White PKMN, as long as those PKMN are of the POISON type!

  29. @Ethos: Sounds good. I’ll be around all evening. Let me know when you’re available and I’ll log into Nintendo WFC.

  30. Working on a Sunday. Home around 21:00 EST. Maybe earlier, will let you know (on here) if that’s the case.

  31. Man, the music is even better in this game. I mean, it’s status quo for most of the time, but the bike music is less annoying, and I’m in this one town and it’s probably my favourite music in the series yet! Very Wind Waker.

  32. Yeah, I did you a favor turning the voice chat off… My girlfriend’s brother was being loud.

  33. Haha, Ethos beat me to the Foongus! I guess I shall offer a Whirlipede instead then. I’m in an airport right now so not sure if I’ll be able to connect my DS to the wifi, but if not I’ll probably be back home at around 11:30 tonight.

  34. @RBK: Looking forward to it. Drop a message here and I’ll see it and trade!

Glad to see the competition is on. Hope we get some other trade offers soon–I’d hate to see a two-horse race!

  35. I don’t have any poison types that haven’t been traded yet, I will have to wait until the next group is selected most likely.

  36. @Reetin: You could try evolving some of the base evolutions that have been traded already (like RBK is doing), you know…

  37. Yeah, it’ll change week to week. I was strong out of the gate last time too. It’s also an endurance thing.

  38. @Ethos: Yes, it is. Deliberately so! Because it goes all the way until JUNE.

I like to think of it as the Lusipurr.com equivalent of test Cricket.

  39. Consider yourself lucky Ethos! Because of a flight delay I wasn’t able to trade a pokemon in time for yesterday! But I shall surpass you yet, fwahahahahaha!

  40. I offer Scolipede. I can trade right now if you’re still awake.

  41. I just got to the point on the game where I can catch the Venipede….!! Something tells me that when we get to June I’ll have ZERO points!!

  42. Curse you Reetin for offering an Amoonguss before I could! Oh well! I guess that’s all the new poison-type pokemon out of the way. Hopefully next week’s type will be one with more pokemon to choose from.

  43. I was a good week to start off with. I would slay you all with Dragon right now. Although I’d like to keep them.

  44. MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I just used rare candy and leveled up my Foongus quickly before either of you two, I am only trailing by two points…

  45. @Reetin Haha, yeah I had my Amoongus all ready to go, I was just waitin’ for midnight to roll around.

    —-

I’m almost to the Elite Four, and man I’m loving the story in this game! It feels like a really good pokemon movie’s story. The cutscenes are actually cutscenes for once, and I love all the uses of the 3D Camera.

I dare say this is the best pokemon game yet! My only issue with it is that a lot of the new pokemon aren’t that cool looking… Specifically, there’s a lack of really good looking water and fire type pokemon.

  46. Pssh, I didn’t evolve Foongus, I just caught an Amoongus. Of course, it was too late. But still.

  47. This isn’t mentioned in the rules, but are we allowed to offer old pokemon if we catch them in Black/White? If so, then I offer to trade an Ariados.

  48. I was just about to ask that question! My guess was that it was just the new ones, but I await the answer!

  49. Curses. Alright, good to know. I won’t waste my time trying to catch more than one of the old pokemon.

Speaking of the old pokemon, it sure is fun to see the older pokemon in the new battle system, all animated and shit.

  50. OH CRAP! Because I started using my 3DS to play Pokémon, my friend code has changed.

    Ethos
    1119-9838-8395

  51. Hold on, I’m playing games with my router to see if that’s the problem.

  52. Well I’m off to sleep! I shall be around at 11AM, if you’re not busy at that time then let me know, so I can trade that Klang to you.

  53. @RBK: It will need to be later as I won’t even be out of class until 21:30. I suspect 22:00 will be nearer the mark, and should give me a few minutes to grab another pkmn for trade.

  54. @Ethos: Same as for RBK, around 22:00 Eastern Daylight Time tonight. I’m not going to class this evening after all, but I am feeling very poorly and should try to get some rest.

I’ll be around tonight to complete those two trades.

  55. @Lusipurr: I’m standing by, just log in whenever you’re ready to trade.

  56. Daaaamn, I just caught an extra to trade today. Oh well, I’ll make an offer later in the day.

  57. @RBK: Sounds good, I should be around most of the day today. Just let me know when.
(Feeling better, too, though my stomach is still upset.)

  58. Yeah, the only other Steel I have is my Cobalion. Not trading that. Hopefully I can catch up with other types!

  59. @RBK: Will have a PKMN to trade you on the morrow! Should be around until about 17:00, and then after 22:00.

  60. I offer a Klinklang. (One more Steel-type left after this one.)

  61. @Lusipurr: Let me know when you’re free to trade. I’ll be around at anytime past 8PM tonight.

  62. NOW they’re worth 3 points. Timing is not my friend.
I offer Virizion, then! Available from 20:00 tonight.

  63. Haha I forgot all about it to be honest! I got all wrapped up in this anime I’m watching.

  64. Apologies for the delays. Things here have been pretty hectic due to the hiring process. So much to do…

Sorry that we weren’t able to get your Sawsbuck in during this week’s trade, RBK. But, you still have a good lead!

    ***

    New Pokemon Type!

    This week’s desired type: Ghost

  65. Given that only RBK is still participating, and that he is on the cusp of a ten point lead, I’m thinking of calling this early.

I’ll leave this comment up for the rest of the week. Unless there are any objections, RBK will win by default on Sunday.

  66. Quick someone step up to the plate! Challenge me! I was sick for 2 weeks! You had lots of time to catch up! You still do! Come on! Challenge!

  67. ROOTBEERKING WINS!

    Congratulation, sir.

His reward, Catherine for PS3, has been-preordered and will arrive at his home on release day.

    THANKS FOR PLAYING!
