On 21 November, 2011 video game publisher Square Enix and GameStop announced that GameStop PowerUp Rewards members who pre-order Final Fantasy XIII-2 will have access to an exclusive DLC item. The “Genji Bow” weapon, which can be equipped by the games protagonist Serah, has it’s own unique look and has both a sword and bow form which will allow Serah to attack more frequently then she would be able to with out the exclusive weapon.
Consumers who per-ordered Final Fantasy XIII-2 at GameStop and are not PowerUp rewards members and those who are will still receive the alternative costume for Serah. Other pre-order bonus’ include, the exclusive Omega Boss battle for players who pre-order from Amazon, and the Collectible Hardcover Final Fantasy XIII -Episode 1- book, which ties the events of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2, for player who order from Best Buy.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 will pick up three years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII, Lightning, the protagonist of the original game, has disappeared and her younger sister Serah Farron, and a boy named Noel Kreiss attempt to find Lightning along with many returning characters from Final Fantasy XIII. In regards to the battle system, the game will use a variation of the Active Time Battle system and the Paradigm Shift system. There will also be a feature that allows the player to control the difficulty of battles. During battles, players will be put through quick time events called “Cinematic Action” which will allow them to deal higher damage to foes and gain the upper hand in combat. The player can tame monsters and use them as party members in battles. This also leads to a new “Feral Link” feature being in the game as the player attacks an enemy while a tamed monster is in their party, the “Feral Link” bar fills up and when it is full the player can make their current tamed monster do a special attack on the enemy via a quick time event.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set to be released on 31 January, 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 with a ESRB rating of T for Teen.
