Sehr wünderbar Tanzenmatts Literaturplatz! I was aware of “Richard Cory” through the song adaptation from folk rock duo Simon and Garfunkel, on their Sounds Of Silence album. It’s a rockin’ little tune with appropriately acerbic lyrics, although to be honest I haven’t looked further into any other poems by Edwin Arlington Robinson. The Simon and Garfunkel version does differ significantly from Win’s poem – have you ever heard it? And if so, how do you think of it as an adaptation by changing around the lyrics? I think it puts the story in a little more “rock and roll” context, and the lyricism that suits the genre, but reduces the economy of words. I always like hearing the short biography of these poets’ lives you give, too.
I am not familiar with the Simon & Garfunkel version, no. I will have to check it out!
