  1. If you haven’t already played it. Ori and the Blind Forest is a really good Metroidvania that is now on the switch. It doesn’t have a pixel art style, but it is certainly a very pretty game in its own right. Also I don’t know if you mentioned it on the podcast but Shanta and the Pirate’s Curse is a pretty good pixel art platformer that is also on the switch.

  2. @RabidKitten: I’ve played both of them and I’m sorry to say neither of them did anything for me. I didn’t much care for Ori at all, and I find the gameplay of Shantae to be way too loose and unvariated. I know that they are both very well-received elsewhere, though!

I’ve been playing Iconoclasts since we recorded the podcast and I have a *lot* to say about it, so stay tuned for next week’s podcast for an update!

  3. I played a little bit of Iconoclasts, and it is beautifully designed. I think I have the guy’s prior game Noitu Love 2: Devolution on Steam, but haven’t played it yet. I’m also a big fan of the Shantae games, which I think excel more in their style and characters than in pure gameplay and level design – which still very good, but not impeccably tight.

  4. I’ve got somwthing else to say… I’ve taken in little promotional material about Final Fantasy VII Remake so far, because it hurts to see a beloved, perfect work like the original reduced as it is. It’s like if Konami put out Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night Remake and it was just Lords Of Shadow. BUT, I also watched a little bit of Final Fantasy XV longplay the other day, and there is no absolutely no way that FF7R is as bad, purely as a game on its own without historical context, as FF15 is. That said, I wait to be proven wrong as I wade through a dozen pointless missions hunting deadly sentient houses in Midgar.

  5. @Tanzenmatt: HOWEVER, FF7R is ruining the reputation of a great game, whereas FFXV was just a standalone crap game. This makes FF7R worse!
