  1. Caspius, we spoke about Final Fantasy being too late to receive proper background upscaling treatment, and your response was that we will just have to wait for their rereleases on next generation consoles, which I grudgingly accepted as fair enough. That was completely without remembering that Final Fantasy VII Remake is a thing that exists (I have been trying very hard to forget). So long as Square Enix is attempting to flog VIIR, I very much doubt that they will give us a nice version of VII.

Also, the next generation of consoles are backwards compatible, and the next generation of Nintendo hardware likely will be too, so Square Enix will not have much of an incentive to rerelease any game that is available on current gen hardware. We really did just miss out by a whisker, and I think it will be a long time until it can be remedied.

  2. I wonder If Winter will replay Saga Frontier Remastered. I would be happy if Minstral song got remastered on Switch. I find the Switch version of FF10 to be a bit better than the Vita version. It could work. I think Is missing out on not releasing some of the PS2 games on Switch.

This is an excellent point. I, too, forgot about the remake (oh, happy fault!), but I also think it passing unlikely that we will see any sort of attention shown to the original FF7 whilst they are still trying to drum up interest in that white elephant.

I’m hoping that we see something near the end of the PS5 lifespan in the form of a “Final Fantasy Collection” where they might be more amenable to including an improved version, because it will ship along with other games as well and so not be a direct competition for the Remake, but that is a very long shot indeed.

  4. If there was a FF Collection I think Square Enix would consider the PS4 versions to be ‘good enough’. Remember the state that they allowed IV, V, VI, and CT to launch on Steam? There is no minimum standard that SE holds their rereleases to, provided that they are functional enough to be played to completion.
