Hello! I am a longtime reader who discovered the mysterious Akademician with a simple search for “RPG podcasts” a few years ago, and once I began interacting with the staff here I eventually succumbed to the inevitable, and became a staff member. I have since departed, nearly returned, actually returned, and I now, once again, I can count myself a member of the staff at this finest of all websites in the world. But my achievements prior to most recently actually rejoining the multinational conglomeration known as The Day Tonight merit extensive mention here, even if I do say so myself (and I do).
As mentioned above, my journey began with a simple search for an RPG podcast to listen to, being too lazy to read and needing others to read to me (hence my love of audio books), and this led to a stop at a place known, at the time, as rpgamer (now Cat Fancy). Akademician was, by then, long gone, but an archive of past episodes revealed his existence, and I eventually found this website. It wasn’t easy back then, and I immediately felt like I was part of an exclusive club. A club where everyone falls in line behind a mysterious dictator whose ultimate authority can not be questioned under penalty of death. I enjoyed the challenge of staying alive, for a while. And apparently I want to enjoy it again!
Today, I spend most of my free time surrounded by various consoles, computer systems, and games, sequestered to the cluttered basement – an outcast in my own home. How did this happen? As a reader I was on top of the world, my star never shining brighter than after my performance in the Great Cricket Championship of 2016, where I put on a legendary display that (most assuredly) left the audience of assorted, confused young people in awe. But as a staff member, even though I forever redefined JRPG gameplay with a semi-playthrough of Final Fantasy VI that readers and staff alike still have not stopped talking about, my standing has never reached the lofty heights I anticipated. But there is still time!
And so it is that I now embark upon this latest stage of my The Day Tonight journey, once again picking up the controller, or keyboard and mouse, or joystick, or some combination of all three, and streaming games for the readers and soon-to-be readers of this website. Join me! Please? I do not want to be alone in my basement.
